Common Polyvinyl Alcohol specifications in architectural coatings are PVA-1788 and PVA-1799.
Polyvinyl alcohol is obtained by hydrolysis of polyvinyl acetate, and cannot be directly polymerized from vinyl alcohol. Since vinyl alcohol is extremely unstable, it is difficult to have free vinyl alcohol monomer.
The structural formula of polyvinyl alcohol is ?CH2CH?OH, in which the alcoholysis degree and the degree of polymerization have a great influence on the physical properties of polyvinyl alcohol.
The degree of polymerization of polyvinyl alcohol can be divided into high degree of polymerization, medium degree of polymerization and low degree of polymerization. Recently, a product with ultra-high degree of polymerization has been developed.
There are generally three kinds of alcoholysis degrees, namely 78%, 88% and 98%. The alcoholysis degree of fully alcoholylated polyvinyl alcohol is 98% to 100%, and the alcoholysis degree of partial alcoholysis is generally 87% to 89%, so that the expression is convenient. The percentage of alcoholysis degree is put behind, so PVA-1788 expresses a degree of polymerization of 1700 and an alcoholysis degree of 88%, and PVA-1799 expresses a degree of polymerization of 1700 and an alcoholysis degree of 99%.

Mainly used in textile pulp, paper binder, rewetting binder, surface sizing agent for paper, pigment carrier, Adhesives for architectural coatings, adhesives and additives for building materials, coating agents for seeds and pharmaceuticals, adhesives for inorganic and electronic products, Water-soluble film, cosmetic additive, stabilizer for vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization and vinyl chloride suspension polymerization, temporary protective film etc.
