Cabot Tung Oil 8099 For Yacht Finish
The tung oil obtained from the hot pressing of Tung oil is a dry oil (Iodine value of 157-170). It can be heated at high temperature (200-250°C) to form a gel by self-polymerization, and even completely solidify. This special property is due to the polymerization of its main ingredient α-Eleostearin (α-Eleostearic ACID glyceride), which is a feature that other dry oils do not have. Tung oil contains 83% alpha-tellonic acid and 15% triolein (Triolein). More detailed data: the mixed fatty acid of tung oil contains 74.5% of α-tellonic acid, 9.7% of linoleic acid, 8.0% of oleic acid, 3.3% of saturated fatty acids, and 0.1% of unsaponifiable matter. Another information: α-tellonic acid 77%, linoleic acid 10%, oleic acid 9%, saturated fatty acid 4%. α-Tonic acid contains three conjugated double bonds in its molecule, so there are many geometric isomers. Among the saturated fatty acids are stearic acid and palmitic acid. Tung oil contains vitamin E and squalene [Squalene (29.2 mg/100 g of tung oil)]. It also contains Phytosterol, Pentosan and several proteins. Tung oil is one of the toxic components of tung oil, but it is also mixed with toxic saponins in tung oil (refer to "Tung tung" article). In addition, the gas generated on the hot tung oil can cause acute dermatitis in contact with the skin.
